Sunset on 95

Its been a while since I last posted, sometimes life has a different opinion of priorities then you do.

As always I set out looking for critters and had consulted my backroads book before departing. A few areas caught my eye in particular Reflection Lake, just south of Golden promised a number of interesting migratory birds. Since the spring weather had drifted through the valley I was hopeful of some mammals as well.

A short walk around the Reflection Lake area managed to yield some swans and a number of mallards lurking about. I wonder if Reflection Lake is named as more of a destination to ponder then in its literal sense as the lake was fairly small and fairly windy.

I had been eyeing the wetlands on the west side of 95 for a while now, wondering if I could get down there and get closer to the number of ducks and swans I had seen from the road. You can cross the Columbia River in a few places along the 95 and so I elected to try in Parson and Spillimacheen. Google offered little help with the spelling of the latter.

The river crossings offered some embankments with some excellent views of  a landscape that I had not have the opportunity to see up close. Willows and reeds creating little havens for floaty birds that would prevent even the best of predators from launching a surprise attack.

From the images I made yesterday, my favorites were not of what I set out to see but became the stunning sunset images as the sky opened up, the light bounced and bent and managed to end up bending in my camera lens some more.

I will definitely be visting this area often.
